"On the basis of sex" is a real life look at the uphill challenges that a gifted legal student and scholar faced during her early career. One of nine women who were accepted at Harvard Law School in 1956, RBG had to explain to the Dean at a formal dinner party, why she deserved to displace a man who could have gone to HLS in her stead. There were other slings and arrows but the worst was that even though she graduated first in her class, RBG was unable to find a job at a law firm. The acting for the most part is first rate and the story shows that society is slow to change even now more than 60 years later in the me-too era. The film is well paced and some of the photography is excellent.

My kind of film: fighting against injustice! If only I believed in laws and lawyers. Well, just in the movies, laws work and justice prevails. Waiting for it. “Who was it for, if not for me?” is my favourite line in this film. You can tell this is what made her come back fighting after being told to give up, she knew she needed to put the changes in motion that would allow her daughter the opportunities she was denied based on her gender. YES QUEEN I LOVE RBG. This movie is Oscar worthy. I am so freaking excited to see this movie! 😊. When the main character is miscast the movie is in trouble. I was drawn to this movie because of Felicity Jones who I thought would be perfect in this role. I thought she was great in The Theory of Everything but not here. Physically she looks the part but her acting is really bad. The writing also really bad. Miscasting and terrible writing lead to poor performances. It is also important to connect/like/appreciate/respect. something about a character. There was nothing here for me.
